Aunt Het Festival Fountain Inn South Carolina

28th Annual Aunt Het Family Fall Festival

Once a cartoon character, now the most celebrated citizen in Fountain Inn South Carolina, Aunt HetAunt Het Festival Fountain Inn SC comes to life every year in this small Southern Greenville County town.  Quickly becoming the “Inn Place To Be“, Fountain Inn shares the fun during the Annual Aunt Het Family Fall Festival.

The nationally syndicated columnist and cartoonist Robert Quillen spent decades developing the local newspaper The Fountain Inn Tribune ( Now called the Tribune Times) molding it after the town and nearby communities.

He made up perhaps his most famous character, Aunt Het, about whom he said, “There is no original Aunt Het.”

Instead, she was a woman born from Quillen’s imagination and used by the humorist in weekly cartoons that ran in the paper from the late-1920s through the late-1940s.  Aunt Het could have been anyone’s next door neighbor.   She was the nice motherly type, pure-at-heart and always ready to freely speak her mind.

Fountain Inn is now ready to celebrate Aunt Het, Robert Quillen and The Fountain Inn Tribune with its 28th annual Aunt Het Day Festival on Oct. 1, 2011.

This year a celebration if the 100th anniversary of The Tribune Times will be part of the fun.

The weekend events start on Friday when the Fountain Inn History Center, 102 Depot St., will open at 10 a.m. Sept. 30, and visitors can learn how the Golden Strip earned its name and about the people who made it happen. Native American artifacts and C&WC railroad memorabilia will be on exhibit.

Saturday morning Main Street Fountain Inn turns into a mecca of fun.   The 28th annual Aunt Het Festival will be in full swing beginning at 9 am.  Main Street will be filled with crafts, food vendors, activities and amusement rides for the kids.

The Mighty McFly band will play from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Funktion band will play beach, shag and Motown music from 1-4 p.m.

Unique Car Club will host a classic, antique car and truck show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
